On defining your own version of success
Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful festive break? We had a magical time celebrating our first Christmas with Evie - so special. She even took her first steps over Christmas! The ultimate Christmas present.
As ever, the slower days of Christmas provide much needed time for reflection. Catching up with friends you’ve not seen for ages, talking about life and work and grand plans for the future… it’s all a recipe for introspection. And with all the inevitable hyped-up talk of New Years’ resolutions it’s really got me thinking about what success is, and what on earth we’re all trying to achieve. This can be a challenging time of year as we make promises to ourselves about the revolutionary things we’ll do in the months ahead, and its easy to lose sight of what really matters. With so many articles out there about what we should be doing, a timely reminder of what's important is just the tonic.
So if I may offer my perspective on what it is to be successful, it’s this: whatever you darned well want it to be.
Perhaps your version of success is a year on year leap in turnover. Maybe it’s more staff, or moving to a bigger office. Or maybe it’s creating a livelihood which pays you well, enables you to prioritise your family, and always be there for school pick-up. If your business allows you to achieve a life which puts your personal values front and centre, you’re doing wonderfully.
Whatever the year ahead holds for you, I hope it’s a happy and fulfilling one.
