Proud to Present: a heartfelt brand for Sunday's Daughter
WHAT a journey we’ve been on with this brand! Rachael and Anthony Howard approached Ditto for a brand they could feel proud of. We first spoke to them early on in the year when the world seemed a somewhat different place - the pandemic hadn’t bitten yet, their business had an entirely different name and things were just, well… different. We’ve been on quite a journey with them, creating a new name, a new visual identity and an entire manner of communicating that reflects the true spirit and essence of this family run business. What a pleasure it’s been to get our hands on every corner of this brand! Here’s the story of Sunday’s Daughter…
Since 2012, Sunday’s Daughter have created personalised gifts from their studio in the Sussex countryside, having spotted a gap in the market for beautiful, practical gifts which are high quality and designed to last. With gifts for even the trickiest to buy for, Rachael’s innate knack of knowing exactly what to give collides with her unique eye for design, to create an abundance of beautifully designed gifts for the whole family. Influenced by the beauty of life in the countryside, the house style is simple, easy and relaxed.
Sunday’s Daughter is a new name for this business; when Rachael and Anthony first came our way, the business was called Owl & Otter. The name didn’t really work as well as it could do, and irritatingly a pub of the same name seemed to be performing much better in terms of Google rankings than their business… so it was time for a change. Having spent umpteen hours brainstorming possible names and rejecting all of the possibilities, Rachael and Anthony decided to delegate the task to us. I LOVE naming businesses and was more than happy to delve in!
We always look for meaning in the names we create, even more so for brands which are all about creating personal pieces. Rachael and Anthony have a little girl called Evie and I really wanted to reference Evie in some way if I could. As it turns out, both Evie and Rachael were born on a Sunday… so Sunday’s Daughter felt like the perfect fit.
The brand itself is soft, aspirational and thoughtfully executed. Timeless typography, elegant logos and hand illustrated botanical elements tell the story of a business which takes its commitment to quality seriously, whilst providing a nod to the inspiration Rachael takes from their rural surroundings.
The team released their new brand into the wild today and it looks amazing. They’ve done such a stunning job with the way they’ve rolled their new style out; I feel very proud!
If, like me, you plan to shop from more small brands this year, I highly recommend looking them up. Tick plenty of gifts off your Christmas list while basking in the warm glow of knowing that you’re supporting a family-owned brand. What could be better?
