Proud to Present: an enchanting brand for world-class magician, Matthew Le Mottée
It’s not every day that someone who is ACTUAL MAGIC approaches us for a rebrand! Matthew Le Mottée has been the most fun to work with; he’s a brilliant client, thoroughly lovely company and the most talented magician I’ve ever seen.
I’m delighted to share his story with you…
Enraptured by the world of magic since discovering his brothers' Paul Daniels magic set at the tender age of six, the art of mystery has shaped Matthew’s life. Having spent the last decade performing professionally both in the UK and internationally, Matthew has made history in the revered Magic Circle and is currently the only person to have ever defended the prestigious title of The Magic Circle Close-up Magician of The Year, for three consecutive years.
Well spoken, immaculately presented and easy going, the Matthew Le Mottée experience is not about tricks and funny jokes, but about creating a moment, inviting guests into a world where anything is possible. And we can vouch for this first hand - Matthew has treated us to a performance every time he’s come in and I honestly can’t tell you how brilliant he is! We’ve all been left completely stunned by what we’ve seen and unable to explain it.
The Matthew Le Mottée brand is classy, sophisticated, elegant and polished yet without the merest whiff of arrogance. There's a very beautiful sincerity to that which makes Matthew instantly relateable; quite a feat given the mystical nature of what he does.
Colour psychology season personality
The season which best represents the Matthew Le Mottée brand is Autumn, with an undercurrent of Winter. Autumnal brands are warm, grounded and strong. They’re dedicated, driven and hard working – whatever they turn their hand to, they do well and execute it with passion. They love nostalgia, too – anything with heritage and a story will have them hooked.
The Winter personality is high achieving. Often with a hint of drama and flair, they set high standards of themselves and execute all that they do with style. There’s a hint of the aspirational to the Winter personality, yet so too is it unshakeably strong. The combination of these two personalities creates a brand which is incredible quality, timeless in its sense of style, yet also warm, welcoming and steeped with character.
The brand
Matthew’s new brand is at once distinguished and grounded; a juxtaposition of being unattainable and otherworldly whilst also warm and friendly. Inspired in part by the Victorian era and brought up to date with a modern twist for a mood which is truly distinctive and incredibly refined. There was an important twist to this rebrand - Matthew was previously trading under the name ‘Dapper Magic’, which he has now set aside. This is a big move - renaming a business is something not to be taken lightly. We felt very strongly that Dapper Magic created a mood which was just not elegant enough to sit comfortably with the main brand, and I’m so pleased Matthew made the leap to step away from the old trading name.
Driven by an innate passion for his craft, personality and alchemy collide for a brand which is irresistibly unexpected. Both nostalgic and current, expert and humble, Matthew’s brand in itself has something mysterious about it; an intangible aura which lends to the sense of wonder that's ignited in the minds of those who are lucky enough to witness him perform. It's an aspirational brand, where exemplary quality is a given and guests are thoughtfully cared for and utterly intrigued by the mystery of such a thoroughly magical and exceptionally gifted performer.
And the new logo - I adore it. We presented Matthew with three logo concepts, and this was by far the most bold and unexpected for his industry. We always love to present a bit of a wildcard to clients at the concept stage, and I’m so pleased that Matthew was brave enough to go for this one! It really stands him apart instantly. An upper case san-serif sets the tone for a brand which possesses authority and credibility, carefully spaced for an aspirational feel. The lettering is capped with a monogram packed with subtle detail. Perfectly symmetrical, this design is dissected with a line containing a heart and a diamond, crowned with three small dots which provide the subtlest of nods to Matthew’s hat-trick of Magic Circle Awards.
With a little direction from us, Matthew has redesigned and relaunched his website on his own. I’m really proud when clients roll their brand out singe handedly - a testament to the strength of the direction that their style guide provides. You can see Matthew’s website right here - and if you’re planning a big celebration I cannot recommend Matthew enough to entertain you. He is astonishing.
