Christmas gifting, the small business way
I don’t know about you, but this year I’m even more conscious than usual of buying gifts thoughtfully - from small businesses, as much as possible, So many of us would love to support small businesses wherever we can, yet don’t always know where to find them - so I’ve put together a guide of some of my favourite small brands who produce things that you’ll love to give.
Falconhurst
If you’re local to us in Kent, Falconhurst Farm Shop is a must-visit for Christmas gifting. Stacked to the rafters with thoughtfully sourced treats, they’ve plenty to delight - from food and drink to pieces from local artists, candle makers and more.
Element Isle
You simply can’t go wrong with jewellery by Element Isle. From striking, sculptural pieces to subtle, contemporary designs, there’s something for every taste. Heaps for the ladies to choose from, and some gorgeous rings, cufflinks and bangles for the guys too. I wear my organic bangle almost every day!
Whist
Candles by Whist are an absolute joy. Inspired by nature, these vegan candles are wonderfully fragranced, thoughtfully formulated to create a moment of calm.
Thomas Cookie
For those with a sweet tooth, I can think of nothing better than receiving cookies in the post. Fully loaded with the freshest and finest ingredients, anything from the Thomas Cookie kitchen will be an instant hit.
Thatch & Roses
Thatch & Roses create flowers for the big moments and for the everyday. With a creative style which is abundant and richly textured, flowers by Thatch & Roses are a celebration of the seasons – resolutely natural and gently wild.
The Wildwood Trust
The Wildwood Trust are the only charity in the UK devoted to conserving, protecting and rewilding our native wildlife. Support their vital work and buy a wildlife experience, membership or adopt an animal - a wonderful gift to your loved ones and to nature.
Elmley
Elmley Nature Reserve is the only nature reserve in the country where you can stay overnight, waking up surrounded by nature yet cocooned in the luxuriously cosy surroundings of the farmhouse, shepherds huts or bell tents. I couldn’t think of a lovelier gift to receive.
Pomalo
Nourish body, soul and mind at Pomalo. With a calendar of events from candle making to floristry, yoga, cooking classes and so much more, they’ll be in wonderful company and beautifully cared for at Pomalo.
Toast
If you’re local to Kent, Toast is a must-visit for foodies. A quirky atmosphere, attentive service and straight-up delicious food will never fail to win. I’ll be gifting vouchers for dinner on me at Toast this year (and will be visiting myself for another hit of their epic halloumi fries…).
Still
I love giving gifts of things to do, not just things to have - and there’s little better to do than to spend a few hours in the company of the wonderfully talented Paul Sanders of Still. Discover mindfulness through the art of photography and explore the world differently.
Martha Brook
I do love good stationery! And if ever there was a more joyful range than Martha Brook’s stylish and inspiring designs, I’m yet to find it. Beautiful, personalised stationery that’s an utter pleasure to use.
Sunday’s Daughter
Wrapping up my list is Sunday’s Daughter - a beautiful family run British business creating gorgeous personalised gifts. There s literally something for everyone in their range - thoughtfully designed and curated by our pals Rachael and Anthony.
And that’s it for now! I hope you find some inspiration among this list and discover an independent brand you’ll love buying from. They’re all thoroughly brilliant.
Happy shopping!
